AOL Just Doesn’t Get It and the Google/AOL PPC Whitelist

AOL just doesn’t get it.  I just got off the phone with them about some advertising.  They’re site has gone all ‘2.0′ with their viral videos and their My AOL rss feeds, but they still sell their adverting on a banner-buy CPM basis!

Remember the SoundGarden lyric, “I’m looking California and feeling Minnesota” from the song Outshined?

AOL - “I’m looking 2007 and I’m feeling 1997″

Also, been a lot of talk about the recent announcement of the Google/AOL PPC whitelist.  For those that don’t know, AOL is a distribution partner for Google’s AdWords program.  AOL has great traffic, but to be there you have to put up with other network partners like Oxysearch and Wakweb.  Now a new program is rolling out that lets Google AdWords advertisers show up only on Google and AOL.  It’s a home run, right?  Well, for now it’s a home run only to the top 2,000 advertisers on Google.  The rich get richer…
